Ski Easter

The Easter ski holidays normally bring some of the best skiing of the year in our opinion with typically a good snowfall prior to the Easter bank holiday and then some warm, sunny skiing. Last year alone I managed to ski off-piste in 50cm of snow the Easter weekend and the year before 80cm or more snow fell just a few days before!

That's history I guess but what abour Easter skiing 2011? The honest answer is that it seems a hard one to call from a ski holiday perspective at the moment. Certainly the Alps have had a difficult year in terms of snow with long periods without the fluffy white stuff falling and although things have improved in recent weeks, snow depths overall seem down on previous years. Next weeks forecast doesn't improve the optimidm with the forecast of cold nights, but warm and sunny days. There is possible a disturbance may arriving later in the week but if it does bring snowfall it is not expected currently to be significant so no celebrations yet on that front. So with this less than inspiring  picture currently, does this mean we should put away our skis and snowboards and avoid the ski Easter holidays this year?

We think not! Firstly i guess it is really too early to call how the snow will flow, and if it does, by how much and when. Yes the recent warm days clearly are a worry, but it wouldn't be the first March for us all to be concerned regarding the impending ski Easter holidays, prior to the traditional pre-Easter ski dump falling and everything ending up rosey (and us forgetting our earlier concerns). Regardless of the snowfall, skiing is always fun whatever the weather and if you go high you know there will be skiing and snow. Easter is afterall an opportunity to get in an end of season ski in before the summer and 8 months without it! Even if it wass warmer than normal so what, stop an hour earlier and have a beer or two, a nice lunch and marvel at the scenery in the warmsunshine and daylight! And as a family skier myself, I know our childrenwill love it too, warm days and a chance to play in the beautiful sunshine of the Alps too!

Give the Easter ski holidays a miss this year, no chance and if you agree, give us a call and we'll make sure we find you a great ski Easter holiday too!
