The Ski Resort
La Tania at 1,350m is a great value ski resort for people looking for Chalet ski holidays in the Three Valleys in France without the familiar high prices of some of its neighbours such as Meribel and Courchevel. Although it is not the prettiest ski resort in France or Europe, despite being a purpose built ski resort it is not ugly either. Many of the chalets and buildings are finished in wood and it is also surrounded by trees and woodland that give a pleasing aesthetic appearance. Being part of the Three Valleys it also has access to 600km of ski pistes and its also traffic free. Its value for money, relatively pretty resort centre and great skiing all make it a great ski destination for families and also friends who enjoy a beer or too but are not looking for too lively an apres-ski.
The La Tania village gondola gives good access in to the Three Valleys but it should be noted that some of the other lifts can be slower and being at 1,300m the compromise of staying at La Tania is that the Three Valleys ski network takes longer to access the main areas in comparison to its bigger rivals. The gondola from the village and the lifts above the gondola will deliver you above Courchevel 1850 but it takes that little bit longer. There is also a quad chair that goes to the Col de la Loze where you can then ski into the Meribel ski area. You can also ski back to La Tania typically all season via the blue piste that also has snow making to ensure snow reliability. Beginners are well catered for in La Tania as are children and people who question its beginner friendly nature either have not been, or have not been since the recent improvements
and the Plan Fontaine green run. Intermediates will also love La Tania and wity 152 blue runs and 119 who would not! Advanced skiing in the Three Valleys is even better and with 33 black runs, pisted skiing is world class, with the off piste even better!
Away from the slopes La Tania does not have a thriving nightlife but is a small selection of ski bars to enjoy a few apres-ski drinks after a great days skiing. Restaurants are limited also but there is still a small and reasonable choice nevertheless.
All in all La Tania is a great ski resort for the more cost conscious skiers and familes looking for a great Chalet Ski holiday in the Three Valleys.
Worth Knowing
La Tania is a very family friendly ski resort and ideal for families with the nursery slope at the foot of the village giving easy access.
Off Piste Skiing
Courchevel and Meribel have fabulous off piste. Courchevewith the Grand Couloire a favourite although it is actually a black run and the narrow entry aside is relatively simple with a wide and not too steep ski. The Telepherique and Emile Allais offer marked off-piste itinerary runs too for those looking for controlled off-piste.
Ski School
ESF are the main school and generally, but not always receive relatively good reports.
Snow Boarding
Whatever snowboarders want to ski, the Three Valleys has and the run home excluded, a ski region where you will never have to board on the same slopes all week if you do not want to. Whilst there is no snow park in La Tania, there is a snow park just above La Tania in Courchevel.
